Robert Burridge was an Industrial Designer. After 25 years in the business, he left the corporate world to paint full time in 1989. Today his paintings are sold in galleries worldwide, including California’s Bay Area, Sedona, Raleigh, Bend, Maryland, Hawaii and on Cruise Ships. Burridge is a national juror for many art organizations, as well as a college and national workshop instructor. He is the honorary President of the International Society of Acrylic Painters and Signature Member of both the Philadelphia Watercolor Society and ISAP. His honors include the prestigious Franklin Mint award and the Crest Metal for Achievement in the Arts, previously awarded to Picasso, John Singer Sargent and Georgia O'Keeffe.

Hollywood is another venue for Bob's work; he created 12 huge paintings for the movie, “Dean Quixote.” His work hangs in the permanent collections of international embassies, corporate galleries, art colleges, as well as television and the entertainment industry.

Burridge says “art should be an uplifting experience for both the painter and the art buyer. For me, painting is one of the luxurious examples celebrating artistic talent and all that is wonderful about life, and especially its quirkiness.”

PAST DEMONSTRATIONS
July 15, 7 PM; Marian Galczenski

Cuesta College Art Teacher

Color has always been an integral part of my painting and teaching. My passion for color has led me to explore color theory, vision, science, and the psychology of color. I will share some of my personal experiences, research, exploration and travels while in the pursuit of color knowledge through a slide show and discussion.

June 17, 7 PM; Sally Tippman

I always knew I wanted to be an artist. During high school, I took classes at Otis and Chouinard Art Institutes in Los Angeles. As an art major at the University of Arizona and Mexico City College, I studied painting, sculpture and printmaking. I moved to New York City, painted and studied at the Art Students League, the School of Visual Arts and the New School for Social Research. I graduated from Columbia University in 1963 with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting. I moved with my family to the Central Coast of California in 1977 and continued my art career. I have worked in printmaking, papermaking, fiber arts and sculpture but have always returned to drawing and painting. I have had several important solo shows, exhibited in numerous galleries and my artwork is represented in private collections across the country.

May 20th 7 PM, 2008; Rachael Yon

The May presenter will be Rachael Yon. Rachael is a local painter from Los Osos. Rachael believes everyone can enjoy making art. Beyond producing her own personal art, Rachael is also involved in teaching, mentoring, and encouraging many people in their personal expression and pursuit of creativity. She helps others experience the pleasure of creating art by leading “sketch walks” in the state parks and by teaching in her studio.
The presentation will begin at 7:00 pm at the Art Center.

April 15th 7 PM, 2008; Chet Amyx

The April presenter will be Chet Amyx, local painter and Cuesta art teacher. Chet has said that he has never focused on one media or style. “Partly because of the nature of working with students and trying to get them to experiment and think creatively "outside the box". But also I enjoy the search for new approaches that stem from observing and being responsive to all things found and made, especially old things. And that is not because I am getting old, although nostalgia might have something to do with it.” Chet will present a mixed medium demonstration incorporating pastels acrylic and oil sticks while creating an expressive figurative work.
March 18th 7 PM, 2008; Art Follows Technology with Howard Kline

People have been asking me for over 35 years if I can paint “that painting” on a canvas or if I can paint it smaller or larger? Unfortunately the answer is a resounding “NO”. With my spontaneous style of painting it is literally impossible for me to copy my own work. Enter, technology, my new best friend. Watercolor lends itself perfectly to be reproduced as oil on canvas or reproduced for larger or smaller variations of my work in either medium. Now I can offer “that painting” any way you want it. My giclee reproductions on paper or canvas in any of my sizes are absolute replicas of my original paintings and are mastered to feature the same color and brilliance of the original. This informal conversation with Howard about the new ideas he has incorporated into his art portfolio that have increased sales will help you enlarge your own client and sales base. With a keen eye, he can help you decide which images to use to bring your work to a larger audience.
